Stanley No. 50 - overland - 06-25-2017

I bought one of these today -- missing the depth stop, of course--thinking I was getting a plow plane. But it's not; it's a beading plane. Has anyone ever used one of these?

Just change the cutter to make it a plough plane.   They used both.

Works well as a plow.

So you are missing the depth shoe for the left side but have the beading fence and blades?

You can make a new depth stop using drill rod and a scrap of steel.

+1 (seen one made using brass scraps -- bling!)

nhplaneparts even sells those stops....and about any cutter you want...

Clearly a defective No. 50.....better send it to me for proper disposal .......

Sadly, it came without a set of cutters, just a single plow-style cutter. That's what confused me. But it does have a fence.

Standard fence (the one that rides the two rods)?  Or beading fence?  Or both?

Just one fence that rides on two rods. I guess it was missing more than I thought.

The manual for the Stanley 50 is here:

Shows all the bits and pieces for the complete kit.
