Shop made thickness sander - make free veneer - paulmon - 02-13-2018 I recently made a jig that fits on my belt sander and allows me to thickness sand wood right down to veneer. Although it can only do wood up to the width of the belt, it also didn't cost $1200. I don't try to sell plans or anything, but I'm sure the clever people here can figure it out easily enough. I made a video that can be seen here: https://youtu.be/BaozDNHvEns Cheers, Paul M http://openwoodshop.com RE: Shop made thickness sander - make free veneer - atgcpaul - 02-14-2018 That's pretty neat. My only suggestion would be to incorporate a spring loaded hold down before the wood meets the sander like how commercial sanders are made. That way you don't inadvertently create divots in your piece if you lift up on your piece as you feed it in. RE: Shop made thickness sander - make free veneer - Paul K. Murphy - 02-14-2018 I love it. I enjoyed some of your other videos too. RE: Shop made thickness sander - make free veneer - mound - 02-14-2018 very cool. welcome to the forum! RE: Shop made thickness sander - make free veneer - photobug - 02-14-2018 Hi Paul, Welcome aboard. I like your site and especially the kayak designs. Building a kayak is on my bucket list. As far as the sander I need to make one to tide me over till I can find space for a bigger one. I am not sure if all belt sanders have this but my 20 year old one has a handle hole on either side. There is a hole that goes all the way through the belt sander. I used it to put a hanger bolt all the way through it. It has wood threads on one side and a machined bolt on the other side. You can use it to mount the belt sander to board and hold it into place. Then they could enlarge your design. Mattias used a screw gun for a power feeder! RP RE: Shop made thickness sander - make free veneer - Phil Thien - 02-14-2018 Yep, great site, keep 'em coming. |
