RE: One plank project? - bandit571 - 01-21-2020

Drawer was glued up, yesterday...came out of these things, this morning..
Cool

Today, despite all the cussing and fighting going on in the shop...(  enough to make a Marine blush..)
[attachment=23288]
Front defects were fixed.  Worked on hinges after that....

What Sellers wanted...set this aside, and started to fit the drawer....hmmm..seemed I needed a "shim" added to the top of the drawer's front..

Waited on the glue to dry a bit...to where it would stay put while I planed it smooth...had a section of it, that would not stay flat...a few brass nails cured that....Next test fit....bottom of the drawer needed a tad more leveling...#3 plane to do it....'CRACK"
Upset

More glue to wait on...seems the bottom edge of one drawer side popped off...
Angry

Hmmm while this was drying...decided to at least add a handle, as I might need something to pull the drawer out with...

How bad a day was it?
Confused  Well, an old pen tried to roll across the bench, right where I was working....pen was soon flying off to parts unseen....
Angry

May try again after a bit...

Kidney Doctor said there isn't any problem from the stone in the kidney...seems to be something else going  on...

Stay tuned...

Ok, drawer has been fixed, and fitted, so...

When I closed the drawer, all the dust inside came out with a "Whoosh"
[attachment=23339]
Had to go to the store, tonight...was out of stain
No
Maybe tomorrow, eh?

Well, didn't like where the hinges wound up at....moved them a bit...
[attachment=23366]
And now they will prop the lid open (like the stain colour?)
Drawer required a bit more work...to get a better fit, that won't get stuck...
Rolleyes
[attachment=23367]
There used to be a square hole in the upper right corner of the drawer opening..now filled
Winkgrin
[attachment=23368]
I glued a narrow strip to the edge of the drawer's side, that filled the "extra groove".   Also serves as a drawer guide..
Cool
[attachment=23369]
Back didn't need much done to it.   Sand it a bit, then a stain, then a wipe down...
[attachment=23370]
Same with the ends of the box...I did add some feet..
[attachment=23371]
I guess I could call this "Iron Foot"?

Letting the stain dry overnight, then see about a top coat, or 2, tomorrow

Almost done, stay tuned...

Love the wood and how you put the drawer on the bottom like that looks really good like that.  Thanks for taking the time to take the pictures all the time and then putting them here.

Varnish is on.   Thought I'd varnish a little box, to check how things dried...
Cool

Figured when this was dry..
[attachment=23397]
There would be a good chance the Sellers box would be, too..

Inside and out..
Cool

Will rub things down, tomorrow...otherwise..we be done..
Cool
