You didn't say how thick the boards are. We did a large, high, cathedral ceiling with cottage quality T&G, 1/4 inches thick. If that thin it must be fac nailed, because the nails will split the rounds.

Ditto! I've done this and the heavier nails do a nice job. As mentioned, no adhesive necessary.

We're in the middle of installing about 4000 linear feet of 1/2" pine T&G on exterior ceilings (porches, etc.), nailed directly to trusses/joists. 2" 15 gauge nails through the tongue on each joist, no glue. The ends are scarf-joints with a dab of glue and face nailed through the scarf overlap on the groove side of the board.
