Brace Drill ID needed..
#10
On the way home from that Cardiac Stress Test, stopped in a little place called "Junk Rescue"..looked over what he had..saw this..

Sales taxes brought the price up to $16 and change...

That twist drill bit?  1/2", the shank was turned down to 1/4"...and was Made in Japan

Took this all apart..

Handsome, ain't it?   Selector ring goes over a prall, so you can either go forward, or, in reverse...Barber Jaws have no "teeth" and the "spring" is just a pin fixed into one of the jaws...

Got things fairly cleaned up and working like new..

The only marking I found ( other than what a previous owner did with a pipe wrench on the chuck's shell) was a "510" on the arm..

Not sure whom made one of these...anyone?

PEXTO No. 972...vs...PEXTO No.052.....Both are 10" sweep brace drills...so..HOW do you propose to re-contruct the #052 into a #972?   yeah, that WOULD be quite a trick now, wouldn't it?

Just a common brace, nothing special, pedigree or maker is pretty irrelevant. Top end makers put their name on them.

That pair of #945 Brace drills?   Each has "Stanley " proudly stamped  on them..BTW

Braces in MY shop?
petxo Samson
Goodell Pratt
Millers Falls
Stanley

I tend to keep the Ratcheting chucked versions out where I can grab one, when I need one...

Size of sweep?   several 6" ones...a few 8" ones...a couple 10" ones..a 12" and a 14"......plus there is also a Wimble Brace

I have a single Breast drill...Goodell Pratt 477.

hanging up is a canvas roll-up, with a full set of Irwin Bits....#4 through #16...

yep...nothing special....YMMV, of course...

I was referring to your initial question. Oh, and my users are all Yankee 2101s, 8, 10 and 12 inch, I have a MF 6 for the small jobs. Never saw the point in a 14".
