I gave up on tool belts and aprons.  I wear a vest similar to this one....  I got it from Duluth trading, but it doesn't seem to be offered any longer.

Still...  it works.  lightweight, lots of pockets, distributes the weight, and has no troublesome ties or doohickeys...   works for me.

I don't carry much...  pencil, notepad, ruler, rule, a few other small tools.

As  a guy with no waist, I;m pretty happy with my Rockler Broad Shoulder Shop Apron.
With it's crossed back straps and only $25, I think it's a bargain.
