I made one from 3/4" plywood and hated it. It worked smoothly enough but would not grip the bowl as snugly as I thought it should so I stopped using it. A year or so later, I thought I needed it in spite of the problems and drug it back out. The plywood had warped enough to make my work wobble so I crapped it. I replaced it with a set of Cole jaws and was so happy with them I bout a second set. If you really want a Longworth, buy one of Ron Brown's Best. Otherwise buy a set of Cole jaws for your chuck.
We do segmented turning, not because it is easy, but because it is hard.
