The video below shows some build details, also some links to hardware for a sliding barn door. Mostly it has a very strong frame. If you go hinged, GO BIG, or stay home. Most outdoor barn doors are at least a few sheets of ply, with a heavy wooden frame, and I like the crossbuck detail to help keep the ply from curling into a tube.
One with Car Siding and a solid frame.

The door is made of plywood and pine and were originally two independent hinged doors. The opening was made wider to accommodate a bigger tractor and at that time the old doors were mounted to a plywood panel with a piece of lumber between the doors to widen the span to accommodate the wider opening and a sliding barn door track used to open the heavier doors.
The original doors are over 40 years old and the new mounting is over 20 years old.

April Wilkerson used plywood siding. I have not built mine yet, but this is what I intend on doing.
I tried not believing. That did not work, so now I just believe
