I have an exterior outlet with a GFCI outlet.  My couch is blocking the outlet so i plan on cutting an extension cord and wiring a new box/outlet.  Basically, i will be building a home-made powerstrip.

Question is.... do i need to install a GFCI outlet in the "powerstip"?  Or can i use a standard outlet since it will be plugged into the GFCI outlet at the house?

Thanks.

If the new powerstrip will be plugged into the GFCI, it will be protected by the GFCI.
I started with absolutely nothing. Now, thanks to years of hard work, careful planning, and perseverance, I find I still have most of it left.

Yes, assuming it is grounded through the ground wire to the receptacle.
