So I've decided to go with the vise on the right (Thanks for everyone's input on which vise).

It says "GLOBE VISE 22" on the front.

Has anyone taken one of these apart before? It looks like it has peened pins holding the locking mechanism and handle on. Will I need to grind them off and replace them with something when I'm done? I'd like to take it apart as much as possible to thoroughly clean and paint it.

I've apparently lost my ability to post pics, so I put links. If anyone can tell me what I'm doing wrong...

EDIT: OK figured out how to get it. What's surprising me is that I'm used to just the code popping up while still in edit mode, not the whole shebang. I now see in quick edit mode just the code pops up, so I could edit the width if I want that way I suppose.

Well I got it apart. A couple night's soak in penetrating catalist and the nut and bridge on the end of the rods popped off.

Glad you got it done.  Sorry I can't offer any advise, not familiar with that vise, though I think a good general first step is to soak everything in some fluid like you did.

What's the plan? Are you going to repaint it too, or just
get it working right?
