Looks like kreg has entered the loose tenon joinery game.
Just saw a video for the Kreg Mortise mate, looks like they are trying to make a version of the loose tenon drill guide that Jessem sold as the mortise mill.
I have personally had a bunch of different ways to cut tenons over the years.
2 hollow chisel mortises and before that a drill press adapter kit.
The woodtek matchmaker multifunction but did mortises.
The Leigh FMT.
Several dowel jigs even one really good one that was over $200
The pantorouter by Mathias wandel, built one and then bought a used one.
Several router jigs,
The Jessem mortise mill.
These were all things I bought trying to avoid spending the high price of the Festool Domino.
As you can see, I would have been ahead on cost just buying the Festool, unless you consider that I did make a profit buying and selling some of the above. But I still have the pantorouter, the Jessem (in a box collecting dust hasn’t been used in years), and the dowel jig.
Eventually I did break down and found a used DF500 domino and bought it for about 2/3 the cost of new at the time or about $800
That was my first Festool, and since then I have bought several more.
If you’re on a tight budget, I can see the value of the Kreg but at $300 if your budget is that tight, you probably would be better served with a good router jig.
Just my opinion, for what it’s worth.
