Those are really, really, really nice pieces. The veneer on the dresser is amazing. I think you did the right thing using a low sheen finish. Had you chosen something with a higher gloss that grain would have just screemed at you and over powered the simple elegance of the piece.

As for your dovetails - they are a little large, but they look very well done and I see nothing to apologize for.

Beautiful!
...Naval Aviators, that had balz made of brass and the size of bowling balls, getting shot off the deck at night, in heavy seas, hoping that when they leave the deck that the ship is pointed towards the sky and not the water.

Well done sir! Well done indeed!

Interesting use of that chunk of sapwood on the side panel.
Thanks,  Curt

Clunky, my butt.

Great work.

How did you cut your veneer? On a BS? How thick did you cut it? Did you finish it on a drum sander?

Any tips?

Thanks guys!!

Curt--Thank you but geez, don't think I can stand being called "sir"--I was an enlisted guy.

Brad--Did cut the veneer on a BS--GO513X2. used a Woodslicer and did a really light pass on the jointer after each cut. Thickness was a little over 1/8" which was what I could get out of the board to get the max number of pieces with one spare which I did end up using. I did run these thru my Delta 1836--both the front and back veneers at the same time to get them all to the same thickness. Applied back side veneer to the wide fronts but not the small ones.

Wow! That cherry veneer is just amazing. Love the design and execution.
Can you share some details on the case joinery?
Thanks,
Bob

Thank you Bob. Found that board in a pile at a local hardwood store, dug thru looking for sisters without luck. Had just enough to do this piece. The case is all M&T joinery. I used plans from Furniture Plans.com modified the width to fit this space. The other case is per the plans, if I had a do over would have made it 4-6" narrower. I think it's just a little on the large size.

Ha! Thought I recognized that casework. I built the 7-drawer chest of that same plan set. I stained the cherry on mine to match a bedroom set that we bought years ago. I like yours much better. Really hated to stain mine, but had to match the existing pieces.

And doesn't look chunky to me at all. Well done.

+1 all the way. I am blown away by the beauty of that piece.

Thanks Bob. One change I made to was to make the tenons on the front rails smaller. The plans called for 3/4 x 3/4" tenons with the rails being 3/4" thick. I found it difficult to get a visually tight fit where the tenon was the full thickness of the rail so I made mine 5/8" square. The 1/16" shoulder covered any misfits.
