It has been my understanding that teflon tape is a thread lubricant only, not a sealant. One thing that you never do is tighten a fitting a little too far and then back it off a little to align it = leak.

The union leak turned out to be a small leak in the valve body above the union. Replaced the valve now no problem with union. Thanks for the help.
