To do finger joints on the tablesaw..usually involves building a jig...lots of set up time....trial and error.    Just as easy tosimply mark them out, saw them with a backsaw, and chop the waste out.   Less noise, hardy any dust in the air, no spinning blades to worry about.....no "bat-ears" left by a saw blade to fill.  

Takes about the same amount of time....plus, I can adjust the spacing as needed, where with the tablesaw jig...you can not.    IF I want a fat finger to better cover a groove, or a dust seal...easy to do with the "by hand" methods.

Tray has been built and stained to match....I do not add stain to the inside of boxes, takes forever to get that smell out...

   
Tray used a solid Poplar panel for the bottom...plane to thin it down a bit...

   
Sides of the tray were also thinned down a bit....

   
Parts for the tray...that wide one is the center handle blank,   all parts were nailed and glued together.
Handle was shaped before the assembly....

   
Added 5/4 x 5/4 blocks for the tray to sit on, just glued in place.  

Grandson claimed this box for his own use.   Once the coat of clear gloss poly had dried.

And THAT will do for this little project.   Thanks for looking in!
