"Difficult Grain"?

Went to the shop, on a Monday?   Mainly to take my mind off of other issues going on...
Reset the depth stops on the Millers Falls No. 72c...

   
New goal was to cut only half way down, NOT 1/2" down...

   
Like that reflection?  


Next? I fired that No. 68 Dovetail saw...it kept getting "lost" in the cut...got the Disston N0. 4 backsaw back out..no more sloppy cuts...barely needed that chisel
Test fit..

   
Then repeat for the last corner...

   
Figures, I finally figure this joint out, again...and then I was done...until the next time...was a bit out of practice, I guess?

Then laid out to trim the panel square...one end wasn't too hateful..

   
But..the other end?

   
Might need more than a little trim?

Have errands to run, today...will see how today get along...trimming for square on the tablesaw...then set up to raise panels...and decide how to mill the rebates around the inside face of the panel.....bevels to raise the panel will be cleaned up with planes...

Well, waited until after Lunch before heading to the shop..had this  task to do..

   
Needed to square up both ends of that panel...
Then reset things a bit..

   
And, since the degree pointer on my saw is MIA..best guess is around a 20 degree bevel..

   
Then, BEFORE I milled the rebates on the inside edges of the Raised panel...panel needed to be a bit flatter..

Milled the rebates, did a test fit for the grooves...then..

   
Craftsman No. 3720/ Sargent No. 79, Type 2....to fine tune the too fat edges for a better fit...

   
It is shiny, because it has been Nickel plated by a friend of mine.

Once things started to fit together a bit...tried a dry fit of 2 rails and 1 stile..

The outside of the door....then, CAREFULLY rotate this mess and then try the other stile..

   
Hmmm, need to work on that one corner a bit more?  

Once that is fixed, might try a glue up?

Got things as close to fixed up as I could, this morning..so..

   
Letting this sit a day, or two...while the shop dries out..

This is the Kitchen Ceiling, after a roof leak.....when you can look out the front door, and NOT even see the house across the city street from you, yep, a wee rain storm...April showers?   More like April MONSOONS...

Dungeon Creek MIGHT finally dry out..

   
I do have the Shop Fan running...trying to get the air movement across the floor to help dry things out..

   
There is a floor drain, just not at this end of the basement..

   
Field Stone walls....tend to leak a bit...floor has enough "fall" that any water will head right for that drain...

Need to install some hinges, finish sanding things smooth enough, add a coat of Witch's Brew Stain, and a coat or 2 of Warm Gloss Poly...and a latch to keep the door closed..

That area right under the door?

   
Thinking about adding a "filler" across the front...maybe some curves like the sides have?   Will need a slight gap between it and the swinging door, so it won't get rubbed on...

The build is coming along well.

Have sent an email to the Estate about the leak.  

Toe Kick is installed...

   
Waiting on glue to cure...

Because I didn't "let-in" those brass corners..

   
It means 2 less hinges mortises to do...and..screw up...all I need to mortise is the 2  into the door..

   
And those are now done...just need to rig up a way to install them into the case..

   
While holding the door where it needs to go...

Yesterday...a 4 hour Cardiac Stress Test about wiped out the day, for me..still not quite there yet, BUT...

   
Door has been installed onto the case...

Eggbeater drill, 1/16" bit..pilot hole, one per hinge
Stanley #40 Push drill, enlarger the top part of the pilot hole, to allow an easier start
Wax 2 screws
Start each screw with a small No. 0 Phillip's screwdriver, while holding the door in place with the other hand...both hinges started..
Drive those 2 screws down all the way with a cordless drill...close the door to check the function of those hinges, and see IF they moved any..

Repeat the above for the other 2 screws.


Toe-kick was just flopping in the breeze, so..

   
1" dab of glue and a clamp to fix it in place...can't shut the door or stand the case up, until the glue cures...
But..

   
I can give those feet a "Pedicure" as they were looking a bit rough around the edges...

Up-date:  Found a decent latch in the spares box...

   
AFTER I had stained and then wiped down everything...

   
And hung the rag out to dry..

   

Have not decided on IF that door NEEDS a handle...yet...

Waiting on a coat of varnish to dry, at the moment....I did find a Brass handle for the door...
