Knotty Pine Alternative

Dunno where you are, but you should remember you're up against common names, grade, and mixed species.  Whitewood is anything but specific, yard grade red pine is a bit more, and a hardwood store may actually have yard grade pine of the proper species to match what you have for the desired outcome. 

Oh yes, white pine(s), yellow pine(s) and red pine(s) all have different characteristics, and they are supercategories of common named stuff above.

When Home Depot came to town, it drove the last nail into a dying local lumberyard business.
That is sad..
But one yard had a "no sorting" policy. I guessed that meant that if you touched it, you bought it.... Each time I sort through the stack of knotty pine at HD I am reminded why they are in business and the others, are knot.
Knot khat kheir knoty kluster kaputed ka kompitition....
But there is some nice stuff to be found if you wanna dig. At least hereabouts.
