I do it the same as willyou up above
Cut sheets of bristol board? and spray glue the fabric on and wrap around the edges. Gives a very clean finish.

I just use thin cardboard from cake mix, cereal, or similar boxes. It works OK and is a bit cheaper

That would work just as well. I get mine free from work. We used to use it for templates cutting gusset plates and such in a steel fab shop.
