Thanks all.
On the small one, it did have a larger base on it at one point . . . a short loss of focus can have lasting impact.
And sanding is no fun. I really tried to avoid it, but never got the perfect finishing cut so did have to do a bit. That said, glad they're done. I have another few in process, now that all have dried from rough turn over a year ago. This was a tree that had burls up and down the trunk, so quite a few. A neighbor is getting ready to take out another with a 38" diameter trunk that's only 9' tall and has issues, but it's burl up and down as well, so looking forward to getting that one too.
