Birds eye maple seems to have fallen out of favor in the last couple years. I haven't seen it used much in furniture as of late. I obtained this material from a supplier in the northern midwest. I stabilized it with resin and made the blanks into chisel handles. I thought it was interesting how the eyes sort of visually smeared around the handles as they were turned.

Beautiful work, as usual! Did you use any stain or did the resin darken them a little?

Yep. Looks pretty good to me, as always. I have only turned a few birds eye handles for my little dovetail tools. Came out looking pretty much the same. Nice thing about the resin is it helps prevent tear out.

You're right Ron the extra density really helps keep the eyes in tact.
