Water-based stains and paints are no different than setting a project out in a light drizzle.

There are far more waterborne finishes used now than oil based. Whether or not legislation drove the change, they work.

I always got a chuckle out of guys posting worrying about shop humidity and then a few weeks later talking about the milk paint finish they were applying.
