Actually I never thought of searching for white cedar in 1"x widths. Each post is $42-ish and they yield approx 30 lattice pieces each.
I just checked Lowe's and they sell the individual 19/32-in x 5-1/2-in x 6-ft Cedar Dog ear Fence Picket. Hmmm....I could plane them down a bit to get to my desired thickness. Each board could yield 6 lattice pieces...hmmm...let me chew on that.
I buy almost all my lumber from sawmills or wholesale lumberyards other than construction grade materials.
Not sure about white cedar here in Florida; we get a lot of red cedar and I’d use Cypress because it’s readily available and rot resistant.
Last time I bought rough sawn Cypress was several weeks ago; my cost was less than $2.00/BF and they were generous as the 4/4 was more like 5/4.
I also had need for 1/2” thick Cypress and they charged a small fee to resaw the 4/4. It was somewhere around $.50 per board. Negligible.
Having said this, an 8’ — 5”x5” at $42 is 16.6 BF so that’s $2.53/BF—which seems pretty good.

I was thinking you were over the edge for making this instead of buying lattice but it looks very good.
And, it seems like you had fun making it—solving the challenges.
Great job.

He was over the edge, as many of us sometimes go, but they sure do look good. Well done.
