Need help with a chip breaker

I have a Stanley #5 1/2 and I purchased a blade which was 2 1/4" wide.  Would a 2" chip breaker work on the blade or would I need to get a 2 1/4" breaker?

Try it with a 2" breaker, and see how it works.  But I would expect you to get chips caught in the gaps on each side.

If you use it mainly for edges, not as big a deal; but for working surfaces, more of a deal.
