I just use automotive scratch remover (Meguiar's ScratchX, et al) to get the high gloss finish. It's not expensive and works quite well.

I haven't gotten mine back yet, but I'm sure it will be as flawless as yours (as it was before I sent it back.) Rob & his staff deserve a huge round of kudos for an extremely well thought out process.

scuff sand it with fine wet/dry sandpaper for better adhesion.

Tape the seals.

How good do you want it to look? Rattle cans can be a challenge to do smoothly -- plan on several coats.

And quality paint goes on better.

The shaft could still be a little tight. Try and clean and lube it. How easy does it turn?
Can the motor be lubed?

Any date known on the MF carving tools?

It's possible that reviewing historical M-F catalogs would help. There are some here.

That's a tasty set, and astonishingly clean for something at least as old as the 1950s/60s.

Hmmm.... my house is 40 years old. This year I'm replacing doors, trim and casing so size doesn't really matter. But now you've got me wondering.

Have you seen the Paul Sellers video's on building tool chest's and tool cabinets? He use's Dovetail's on the front and front sides and brings in the the end piece and use's mortice and tenon joinery on the end piece going thru the rear end piece. He also comes in about an 1" or so with the end piece and installs a little stop to keep drawer's from coming out.
