I have used titebond and sawdust and filled in with small slivers of wood. Careful and try and match grain patterns. |

I do a lot of boxes and use a MDF board with 1 sheets of sandpaper to flatten. For hinges I use mostly piano hinges as they are cheap, but getting harder to find good quality ones.

Not sure if this helps but light wood on the walnut was very soft and punky. I used most of a bottle of cryogenic thin glue.
