Don't dig. When working inside, work a bit below center, so the bevel on the other side of the flute would be the first to contact wood if you dropped the handle a bit too much. Grabbing air goes nowhere.
You're not turning the edge up into the rotation, right? Cutting downhill is always best.
Better to follow the leader than the pack. Less to step in.
