I keep a magnet on a stick handy for just such situations.

Frequently the arbor nut to my TS

I put a piece of 1/4" x 1/4" chicken wire over the dust collector to keep the nut from disappearing in my dust bag.  It has saved me hours of time looking for the arbor nut.
