Drywall screws tend to be very hard and brittle. An impact driver doesn't play well with them. A drill, especially with a clutch, is a better choice. If you must, you can buy a Jacobs style chuck with a 1/4" hex shank that will lock into your impact driver.

I've done at least a house's worth of drywall screws with an impact driver without a problem. Ignorance is bliss I guess.

I have an older DeWalt corded screw-gun. Still going strong for about 22 years. I like the corded because it's lighter. I like a screw gun over a chucked drill because the business end is narrower and gets into corners much better.
