Glue a 1” X 1” hardwood beam under or to the front of the plywood shelf and stop worrying about sag.

It is going to be open shelving which you can see through to the sun room. I was hoping to keep the shelves to 3/4". I would go with 1/2" thick glass shelves but at nearly $200.00 per shelf that is off the table.

You can address the sag with a piece of 1/2" aluminum angle screwed to the back of the shelf. That will add a lot of streght w/out making the shelf thicker. If you want to go "fancy" you can rout a recess so it is flush.

I believe they are really strong, even in the worst particle board. The main problem I can see is when there is a lot of clearance. I suspect that 25 pounds is conservative.

If you don't want to see a wide shelf then put the edge on the back; you'll not see them easily. I have also put a 1" board running down the middle on lower shelves.

I believe he wants open shelves, seen on both sides.
