On most of the rings, I now see what you mean and agree with you. The base ring still looks to me that the different segments of that ring are different colors. That could be lighting, though, or strong differences in dye uptake.

I think that is light. It's amazing to me to just hold segmented bowls in my hands and watch the colors change as i rotate them. I'd be willing to bet those segments are pretty identical in colors as you go around each ring. Cool stuff!!
